You have read the lists. You have saved the videos.
And you still lie awake wondering what you are missing.
Plumbing options, electrical options, the outlet nobody drew, the window that quietly disappeared between plan revisions. Every one of them gets decided once, and most of them get decided before you ever knew they were a decision.
The hard part is not finding information. It is knowing which of it applies to your house, and having somebody to ask when it does not add up.
Someone outside your job to ask
Your builder may be great. They also have a schedule to protect and other jobs going. The Custom Pass gives you another builder's perspective, from someone who is not on your contract.
A builder with nothing to sell you on your job, answering the questions you are afraid you are not asking.
Here is what an answer looks like.
A real question from a homeowner. Josh B. sent this the week his framing was about to start, and the written answer comes from Jon, Built With This.
Almost everybody building hits this exact wall. Three piles.
- Do it now. Blocking, outlets where you will actually use them, low voltage. Small now, cut and patch later.
- Rough it in, finish later. Don't buy the EV charger yet. Size it, run what it needs to the spot, and cap it.
- Let it go. Paint, hardware, and fixtures can change any time.
Price every item on its own line, then ask what it would cost to add later. That second number makes the decision for you.
Stop wondering what you are missing. Have someone to ask.
Ask the Builder
Post questions in Ask the Builder as they come up, and other members building right now can chime in. Every month, at least one of your questions is guaranteed a written answer from me within 5 business days, and I answer more as time allows. As a founding member, your first question is answered within 3 business days of sending it.

Still building.
We build for a living. 84 custom homes as the builder of record, and we are still building.
Built With This is the same eye you have been watching on your feed. The Custom Pass is that eye on your questions instead of everybody's.

Get help with your decisions. Your builder still runs the job.
It is not your builder, your inspector, or your engineer.
I am not on your job, and nothing here replaces the licensed people who are. What you get is a builder's read on your question, so you walk into your next meeting knowing what to ask and what to push on.
It is not a plan review.
The Video Floor Plan Review is a separate paid service.
There are no calls.
That is how it stays at this price.
50 founding spots. $397 for a year of answers.

After founding closes, The Custom Pass is $497 a year, or $99 a month.
That price is for the first 50 people, who get in while the library is being built around their own questions.
Founding closes Monday, October 26, or the moment the 50th spot is taken, whichever comes first.

“There’s been a good number of things that we’ve changed already from your checklist that I know we’ll be stoked about in the end.”
“We are getting ready for a custom build, and I was just starting to feel overwhelmed that I would not be able to watch all the random Instagram videos from builders giving tips and was afraid that I would be missing something. This is so assuring to have everything in one list and with such great detail and wording to share with the builder.”
Still wondering if this is right for your build?
I am still on paper. Am I too early?
No. This is the best possible time. Most of the expensive decisions get made before anyone breaks ground, and every answer is cheapest while your house is still a drawing.
We are already framed. Am I too late?
Not if the walls are still open. A lot of plumbing, electrical, low voltage, blocking, and HVAC calls can still be made before drywall, though some get harder and more expensive once framing and rough-in are done. If you are past drywall, this is not for you.
I already bought the book.
Book owners get credit for what they paid. Watch your inbox.
Why do I have to wait until October 26 to get in?
Because the first Builder Breakdowns are being recorded from founding member questions, yours included. You get the book and the documents the minute you join, and your 12 months does not start until the doors open.
Will my builder see what I ask?
Questions you email me are seen by me only. Anything you post in the member community is visible to other members, so share there only what you are comfortable with. If your question becomes a Builder Breakdown, you are credited by first name and last initial at most, and only if you are fine with that. Your full name, address, location, and anything that identifies the house never appear.
